Prof. Kenneth B. Wagener
|
"Members of the Wagener research group focus on the chemistry associated with polymer science. We deal largely with mechanism as applied to the synthesis of new polymer structures. My contributions as a research advisor are to suggest opportunities for original research, and to maintain proper connections with external organizations that are interested in our work. Ultimately, I want to see all students in this group get what they want out of the degree, then enthusiastically proceed on to the next step in their career."

Prof. Kathryn R. Williams |
Dr. Williams has over 40 years' experience teaching university-level chemistry and writing instructional materials. After completing her PhD at the Florida State University in 1972, she joined the faculty at Florida International University, where she designed the lecture and laboratory programs in inorganic and analytical chemistry. In 1979, Dr. Williams moved to the University of Florida to become the coordinator of laboratories in analytical, physical, and radiochemistry. During her teaching career, Dr. Williams wrote seven student laboratory manuals and coauthored over 50 technical publications, many of them describing new student laboratory experiments. She also produced over 20 video tapes to enhance laboratory instruction. In 1999, she became editor of the "From Past Issues" feature of the Journal of Chemical Education, for which she wrote non-technical articles on interesting or off-beat themes encountered in previous volumes of the journal. Now semi-retired from full-time teaching, Dr. Williams works as a free-lance editor of journal manuscripts, dissertations, and proposals, and she has served as the Wagener group editor since September 2008. Realizing in her advanced years that it was time to learn some synthetic techniques, in 2013 she plunged into active laboratory work. She is now a familiar figure in the Butler Polymer Research Laboratory. Email: krw@chem.ufl.edu

Prof. Giovanni Rojas
|
Giovanni Rojas is currently the chemistry program chairman and professor of chemistry at Universidad Icesi, Cali, Colombia. After graduation in 2008, Giovanni worked as postdoc at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz. Giovanni has industrial experience at the following companies: Bayer (Colombia), Unilever (Colombia), Braskem (Brazil) and The Colombian Sugarcane Research Center (Cenicaņa). Giovanni is interested in the areas of analytical, organic, green and polymer chemistry. Giovanni participates on the studies of precision branched polyethylene via ADMET. Email: grojas@icesi.edu.co

Dr. Rachel Bianculli
|
Rachel received her B.S. in Chemistry from Bowling Green State University in 2018. While at BGSU, she was advised by Drs. Joseph Furgal and Alexis Ostrowski, working with silsesquioxane-based composites to improve the physical properties of photo-healing polymers. Upon graduation, she began her Ph.D. under the direction of Dr. Michael Schulz in the Department of Chemistry at Virginia Tech. Her dissertation research focuses on the design and synthesis of sialic acid-containing polymers for antiviral applications. Throughout graduate school, Rachel became heavily involved in teaching, mentorship, and service to the chemistry and university communities. She is excited to bring that same energy to the University of Florida as a postdoctoral researcher for the Wagener and Evans Labs. While at UF, she will be working on ADMET monomer and polymer synthesis and analyzing bulk polymer properties. Outside of research, she enjoys watching movies, attending concerts, and traveling. Email: TBD

Nathan Williams
|
Nathan is a web copywriter and content marketer who joined the Wagener Group in late 2015 to assist with website maintenance and content upgrades. He is also part of a startup firm in Tallahassee, FL specializing in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) consulting and training. Nathan helps the firm build its online presence for thought leadership, lead generation and general marketing for its products and services. Nathan's copywriting portfolio spans a diverse array of industries ranging from the legal industry to gold bullion investing and more. He also hopes to pursue niche writing opportunities related to back roads traveling in the years ahead. For the Wagener Group, Nathan hopes to expand the current website to better articulate the lab’s research activities in polymer chemistry and its students, faculty and staff.
